What Plan Does a Normal Family Need?

You don't need the fastest plan. For most families with basic browsing, streaming and occasional work-from-home video calls, an Endless 100 Mbps or 500 Mbps plan is more than enough. These speeds let you comfortably join video meetings with your camera on without lag.

Endless 100 Mbps

Best for: Basic browsing, streaming & video calls

Plenty for a normal family with casual use and occasional work-from-home video calls.

Endless 500 Mbps

Best for: Multiple devices, gaming & HD streaming

Great if you have several people on video calls at once or stream 4K regularly.

5 Tips to Pay Less for Internet

1

Bring Your Own Router (BYO)

Providers charge you a premium for renting their router — often $10–15/month for hardware you could buy once for $80–150. Always choose the BYO option. If you're signing up with your first provider and don't own one yet, buy a decent router outright — it pays for itself within months and you keep it when you switch.

2

Go Fixed Term (12 Months)

Fixed-term contracts are almost always cheaper than month-to-month. Lock in for 12 months to get the lower price — then switch when it ends (see tip 3).

3

Switch Every Year for Promotions

Providers compete for new customers with sign-up discounts — 2degrees often offers the first 3 months cheaper, Skinny gives the first month free, and others run similar deals. When your 12-month contract ends, switch to whoever has the best new-customer promo.

Calculate your effective annual price:add up all 12 monthly payments (including the discounted months) and divide by 12. That's your real monthly cost — and it's often significantly lower than the headline price.

Our Top Picks: 2degrees, Skinny & ASH NET

In general, the cheapest and reliable providers are 2degrees, Skinny, and ASH NET. They run on the same fibre infrastructure as the big names but without the premium pricing. Start your comparison with these three.

Bundles Can Save More — But Still Switch Yearly

Some providers offer better pricing when you bundle internet with mobile or power. It can be worth it — but don't let a bundle stop you from switching every year. The yearly savings from chasing new-customer promos almost always outweigh bundle discounts.

Hot Tip — June 2026

Skinny recently increased their prices and is allowing customers to terminate their fixed-term contract without paying a break fee.

If you're on Skinny and already got the first-month-free promo, this is a golden opportunity: you've already banked the free month, and now you can leave early with no penalty. Switch immediately to another provider to earn their new-customer promotion too — effectively stacking two promos and lowering your overall annual cost even further.
